Dear everyone I called an idiot,
I've reread my pandemic letter. I seemed to know an awful lot about people I'd never met.
Back then, following the rules felt like the decent thing to do. I didn't want to hurt anyone. But I also liked being told what responsible people did. It saved me having to work it out, and I got to feel good about myself.
Over the years, I've wanted to ask more. What is this rule meant to achieve? Does it still make sense? Why is asking enough to get you treated like you've coughed into someone's grandmother?
I might follow a rule because the reason holds up. I might follow it while still having questions.
And refusing everything would be just as easy. I'd still be letting someone else's instruction decide what I do. I'd just do the opposite and call it freedom.
My old letter put everyone into 2 groups, then congratulated the one I belonged to.
Quite a love letter. No room for a reply.
What was it like for you?
Chud
